New York Fashion Week kicked off on Friday, one of the most important catwalks in the industry that always brings us the more urban and refreshing proposals compared to the classic designs that we usually see in European ‘fashion weeks’. Until Wednesday we will be able to see what trends American designers and some guests bring us, among them our Palomo Spain, who returns to this important event after 3 years of absence.
Although we are in the middle of the catwalk, we have already been able to see the new ideas within the world of fashion that this next year has in store for us. autumn-winter 23/24 and, as always happens at New York Fashion Week, it will not leave anyone indifferent.
As always, the designers’ proposals are intermingled, not only with the trends of 10 years ago, but also with reality and the events we are experiencing, showing us your claims through the needle and thread.
1. Nude effect dresses
We already sensed it on the last red carpets, but now the catwalks have confirmed it: the ‘naked dress’ or dresses with a nude effect will be a trend this year. These are completely transparent garments, whether they are dresses or jumpsuits, in which underwear is visible and they will be essential at any party. Of course, only suitable for the most daring.
2.Peplum
One of the trends that hit the hardest in 2010 returns this year through the front door. Juana Acosta became one of the best dressed at the Goya 2023 with a dress that included a peplum and, although we have seen it in all kinds of fabrics, they will succeed in the most vaporous and romantic like tulle.
3. Frills
Although we have skipped a decade, the trends of 2000 are still present on the catwalks. Just when we thought we would have got rid of the frills, New York Fashion Week comes to prove us wrong. We will see them a lot garments with semi-transparent fabrics.
4. Tight knit dresses
The point refuses to abandon us and brings us its sexier version with semi-transparencies. Although these will not be mandatory, it will be that they are adjusted to the body to mark all our curves, so it will be at a finer point.
5. ‘Free the nipple’
As we have said before, transparencies are here to stay and, although we can wear them with underwear, the bra will be totally optional, embracing the ‘free the nipple’ movement. Many ‘celebrities’ have already worn it on red carpets and with the revision of the policies of Instagram and Facebook in which they are considering eliminating the censorship of the female nipple, this trend is postulated to be one of the favorites.
6. ‘Total look’ red
If water green is going to be the color of summer, red will be that of winter. We will see a lot of it in the form of monochrome looks with few accessories and in very bright tones. An essential for the Christmas holidays.
7. Snakeskin print
The trends are similar to the Chinese horoscope: 2021 was the year of the zebra, 2022 of the cow and it seems that this 2023 will be the year of the snake. We have seen this pattern adorning a multitude of looks and not only in accessories, but also in dresses, tops and pants.
8. Skirts for all, all and ‘everyone’
Fashion is not just the clothes you wear, it is also a true reflection of society and a blank canvas where designers also do activism, such as the Ukraine anti-war protest looks we saw last year. In this last Fashion Week, we have been able to see how a such a controversial and hot topic like the skirt for men it has been uploaded to the catwalk, leaving this garment spectacular all over the world.
